Description: Manages UDLD (Unidirectional Link Detection) configuration and port status on Brocade Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BROCADE-UDLD-MIB?

BROCADE-UDLD-MIB is a Brocade (BCSI enterprise) MIB supporting Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) on Brocade Ethernet switches, a Layer 2 feature that detects one-way fiber or copper links that could otherwise cause loops or blackholed traffic. Per its module description, this module is focused on UDLD-related notifications rather than a large set of polled configuration/status objects. Its monitoring relevance is fault detection at the link/hardware level: a UDLD notification alerts operators the moment a port is detected as unidirectional, typically indicating a failing transceiver, a miswired fiber pair, or a bad cable. It complements the standard IF-MIB and any UDLD configuration objects by providing the notification layer for link-health events. It is deployed on Brocade (and Brocade-derived Foundry/BCSI) switches wherever fiber links between switches need unidirectional-fault protection, commonly in data-center core/aggregation layers. Engineers can download the BROCADE-UDLD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BROCADE-UDLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Brocade Ethernet switches (BCSI/Foundry-derived)

Monitoring Examples

The sample objects here are almost entirely notification-related (bcsiUdldNotifications, bcsiUdldNotifObjects, bcsiUdldNotifMessage) rather than polled counters, so the realistic scenario is trap-driven: an NMS subscribed to bcsiUdldNotifications receives an alert carrying bcsiUdldNotifMessage text whenever a port transitions to unidirectional/error-disabled state. That trap reveals a specific port has a physical-layer fault requiring hands-on inspection, something polling alone would be slow to catch. Given the sparse object list, no additional scalar/table polling behavior can be honestly claimed beyond this notification mechanism.

What Can Be Monitored

  • unidirectional link detection (UDLD) fault notifications
  • port-level link fault status
