Description: Defines private vendor-specific management extensions for Broadcom cable data products.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BRCM-CABLEDATA-PRIVATE-MIB?
BRCM-CABLEDATA-PRIVATE-MIB is a Broadcom vendor-specific MIB used across Broadcom's cable-data chipset platform, found in DOCSIS cable modems and related devices, to gate access to Broadcom's other private/proprietary MIB extensions. Rather than exposing operational counters or environmental sensors, it defines a private-MIB "enable key" mechanism — a table of keys that must be set correctly to unlock visibility into other Broadcom-private MIB trees on the device. It is therefore primarily a software/configuration-status MIB: its key objects reveal whether vendor-private diagnostic or factory MIBs are currently accessible on the device, rather than exposing direct hardware health metrics such as temperature or CPU load. It underlies and gates access to other Broadcom private MIBs, such as BRCM-HOMEPLUG-FACTORY-MIB, that build on the same private tree. It's typically found in DOCSIS cable modems, gateways, and set-top devices built on Broadcom cable-data system-on-chip platforms. Engineers can download the BRCM-CABLEDATA-PRIVATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BRCM-CABLEDATA-PRIVATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadcom cable-data chipset-based cable modem
- DOCSIS gateway/set-top device (Broadcom SoC)
Monitoring Examples
A technician would set cdPrivateMibEnableKeyTable entries, keyed by cdPvtMibEnableKeyIndex and holding cdPvtMibEnableKeyValue, and check cdPvtMibEnableKeyStatus to confirm whether the correct unlock key has been accepted, which determines whether Broadcom's other private MIB objects become visible for deeper diagnostics. cdPrivateMibEnable acts as a master switch/flag indicating whether private-MIB access is currently enabled on the device. This is used less for ongoing performance monitoring than for controlling access during factory test or advanced field troubleshooting sessions.
What Can Be Monitored
- private-MIB enable/unlock status
- private-MIB access key value and validation state
- master private-MIB enable flag
