What Is BRCM-CABLEDATA-SMI?
BRCM-CABLEDATA-SMI is a Broadcom proprietary Structure of Management Information (SMI) MIB establishing the enterprise OID hierarchy for Broadcom's CableData chipset/silicon product family used in DOCSIS cable modems and CMTS equipment. It defines the root registration branches under which Broadcom's cable-data functional MIBs (covering chipset diagnostics, DOCSIS PHY parameters, etc.) attach their objects. It carries no runtime managed objects itself and so is not directly used to monitor hardware or software status; that role belongs to the functional Broadcom cable-data MIBs built on this OID base, which would report chipset/PHY-level diagnostics and status. It is a foundational structural dependency for the rest of the Broadcom CableData MIB family, referenced by every module that registers beneath its OID tree, and looking up a BRCM-CABLEDATA-SMI OID in isolation reveals only registration branches, since the actual chipset diagnostic and DOCSIS PHY objects live in the functional MIBs built beneath this SMI root. It is deployed as a prerequisite MIB on cable modems and CMTS equipment built around Broadcom cable-data silicon.
