Category: Device Management, IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: bintec

Description: Provides remote ICMP ping test management and reachability monitoring on bintec elmeg BIANCA/BRICK routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BIANCA-BRICK-PING-MIB?

BIANCA-BRICK-PING-MIB is a bintec elmeg proprietary MIB (registered under bintec.bibo.biboip as biboping) that lets an SNMP manager remotely trigger and read back ICMP ping tests on a BIANCA/BRICK router without needing CLI access. Its single biboPingTable/biboPingEntry, indexed by an operator-assigned biboPingIndex, is created by SET-ing a new index and deleted by setting biboPingStatus to delete(6) (RowStatus-style values: active, notinservice, notready, createandgo, createandwait, delete); once created, biboPingAddress (and optionally biboPingSourceAddress) defines the ping target, while biboPingPacketCount, biboPingPacketSize, biboPingPacketTimeout, biboPingTTL, and biboPingTOS configure the test. Results are read back from biboPingCompleted, biboPingReceivedPackets, and the biboPingMinRoundTrip/MaxRoundTrip/AvgRoundTrip round-trip-time statistics once the test finishes. Because it is an active-test MIB rather than a passive counter MIB, its monitoring value comes from initiating on-demand or scripted reachability checks and reading the resulting round-trip statistics, making it useful for verifying a remote path without shelling into the router. It is deployed on bintec elmeg BIANCA/BRICK routers, and network teams load the BIANCA-BRICK-PING-MIB MIB Browser view of this table to script SNMP-driven reachability tests.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BIANCA-BRICK-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • bintec elmeg BIANCA/BRICK routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator creates a biboPingTable row by SET-ing biboPingAddress and biboPingStatus to createAndGo(4), then polls biboPingCompleted until true and reads biboPingReceivedPackets against biboPingPacketCount along with biboPingAvgRoundTrip; a completed test showing fewer received packets than sent, or an unusually high biboPingMaxRoundTrip, would indicate packet loss or latency on the path to that target.

What Can Be Monitored

  • on-demand ping test creation/deletion via row status
  • ping target and source address configuration
  • packet count, size, TTL, and TOS parameters per test
  • test completion status
  • received packet count and min/max/average round-trip time
