Description: Defines general SNMP notifications for Benu Networks gateway system events and service alerts.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BENU-GENERAL-NOTIFICATION-MIB?
BENU-GENERAL-NOTIFICATION-MIB is a Benu Networks proprietary module that defines general-purpose SNMP trap/notification objects for Benu's broadband gateway and subscriber management platforms. Rather than exposing polled data tables, its content consists almost entirely of notification (trap) definitions grouped under bGeneralNotifyMIBTraps, alongside a placeholder object group bGeneralNotifyMIBObjects. It is used purely for fault and event monitoring -- alerting operators to system-level events and service alerts as they occur rather than reporting steady-state hardware or software metrics. It depends on the standard SNMP notification framework (SNMPv2-TC/SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB conventions) to carry its trap PDUs, and typically works alongside other Benu MIBs (such as BENU-HOST-MIB) that supply the underlying data referenced by the traps. It is deployed on Benu Networks broadband gateway (BNG) and virtualized access platforms used by service providers, and a BENU-GENERAL-NOTIFICATION-MIB download is typically the starting point for configuring trap receivers against it.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BENU-GENERAL-NOTIFICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Benu Networks broadband gateway
- Benu Networks virtualized access platform
Monitoring Examples
Because sample_objects only lists the top-level bGeneralNotifyMIBObjects and bGeneralNotifyMIBTraps containers with no runtime data tables, this module is effectively a notification/event definitions module rather than one with pollable runtime objects -- an NMS would configure trap receivers to catch these notifications rather than poll them. There are no gauge or counter objects to walk for a monitoring scenario. Operators typically pair it with other Benu MIBs to interpret the varbinds carried in each trap.
