Category: Vendor: Avaya

Description: Extends LLDP with LLDP-MED TLVs for network policy and location on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAY-STACK-LLDP-EXT-MED-MIB?

BAY-STACK-LLDP-EXT-MED-MIB is an Avaya/Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) extension to the standard LLDP-MED protocol, adding vendor-specific local media-policy TLVs. It exposes a table of media policy entries covering application type, VLAN ID, Layer 2 priority, DSCP value, and tagging/unknown-policy flags, along with related notifications. Monitoring this data reveals the software-level network-policy configuration being advertised to connected endpoints such as VoIP phones - confirming whether the correct VLAN, priority, and DSCP policy is being applied per application type. It is explicitly built as an extension of the standard LLDP-MED MIB (based on IEEE 802.1AB and the TIA-1057 LLDP-MED specification). It is deployed on enterprise LAN switch ports connecting VoIP phones or other media endpoints that rely on auto-provisioned VLAN/QoS policy, and a BAY-STACK-LLDP-EXT-MED-MIB download is available for administrators who need to load it directly into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-LLDP-EXT-MED-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya/Nortel Ethernet Routing Switches (ERS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reviews bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyTable/bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyEntry for a switch port, checking bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyVlanID, bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyPriority, and bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyDscp for the entry matching bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyAppType (e.g., voice). An entry whose bsLldpXMedLocMediaPolicyRowStatus is not active, or whose VLAN/DSCP values are wrong, would explain a VoIP phone failing to land on the correct voice VLAN or QoS class.

What Can Be Monitored

  • media policy VLAN ID
  • media policy priority/DSCP
  • policy row status
  • application type mapping
