Category: Device Management, Vendor: Avaya

Description: Manages the Avaya/Nortel Enterprise Device Manager (EDM) web-based management interface configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAY-STACK-EDM-MIB?

BAY-STACK-EDM-MIB is an Avaya/Nortel private MIB covering the Enterprise Device Manager (EDM), the embedded web-based management interface on BayStack/Ethernet Routing Switch stackable switches. Its objects are management-plane configuration settings, namely the location of the help file content and the web session inactivity timeout, plus a notifications branch for EDM-related events. Its monitoring value is limited compared to hardware-focused MIBs: bsEdmInactivityTimeout indicates the security posture of the web GUI (whether idle sessions are timed out per policy), and bayStackEdmNotifications can signal management-access-related events, but there is no indication of temperature, CPU, or power-supply data here. It does not depend on external standard MIBs, functioning alongside other BayStack/Nortel private MIBs and standard SNMP notification conventions. It is deployed on Avaya/Nortel (and post-acquisition Extreme) Ethernet Routing Switch stackable switches in enterprise wiring closets, where the embedded web GUI is used alongside CLI and SNMP management. Engineers can download the BAY-STACK-EDM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-EDM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya/Nortel BayStack Ethernet Routing Switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin checks bsEdmInactivityTimeout to confirm the web management session timeout is set to policy (not left disabled, which would be a security risk), and monitors bayStackEdmNotifications for events tied to EDM access. bsEdmHelpFilePath is a largely static configuration value confirming where on-device help content is stored, of limited ongoing monitoring interest beyond initial setup verification.

What Can Be Monitored

  • web management session inactivity timeout
  • EDM help file path configuration
  • EDM-related notification events
