Description: Monitors Avaya application memory manager, tracking heap allocation, garbage collection events, and memory pool usage.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AVAYA-APPL-MEM-MANAGER?

AVAYA-APPL-MEM-MANAGER is a proprietary Avaya MIB module for the application memory manager on Avaya gateway devices, which lets an administrator define how much RAM and NVRAM each onboard application (such as the packet SNIFFER or a TFTP server) is allowed to consume. avApplMemManagerTable, indexed by avApplMemManagerId and avApplMemManagerType, exposes each application's name (avApplMemManagerName), configured size (avApplMemManagerSize), and allowable minimum/maximum size (avApplMemManagerMinSize/MaxSize), alongside scalar objects avApplMemManagerTotalRamSize and avApplMemManagerTotalNvRamSize for the device-wide memory budget. This is a configuration-oriented MIB rather than a live-traffic MIB, but polling it reveals whether an application's memory allocation is near its ceiling, which is useful for diagnosing why a feature like packet capture is failing or truncating on constrained embedded gateway hardware. It depends on AVAYAGEN-MIB for its enterprise placement under avGatewayMibs. It is deployed on Avaya media gateways, where administrators consult the AVAYA-APPL-MEM-MANAGER MIB module to keep per-application memory budgets within safe limits.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AVAYA-APPL-MEM-MANAGER. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya media gateways / voice systems

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls avApplMemManagerTable for the SNIFFER entry (avApplMemManagerId 1) and compares avApplMemManagerSize against avApplMemManagerMaxSize; a configured size sitting at or above the max would explain why an attempt to enlarge the capture buffer for that application is being rejected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-application RAM/NVRAM allocation size
  • configured min/max memory size per application
  • total system RAM and NVRAM size scalars
  • application memory table entries (SNIFFER, TFTP server, etc.)
