Category: DOCSIS and Cable

Description: Manages provisioning configuration for subscriber services on the BAS broadband access platform.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-PROV-MIB?

BAS-PROV-MIB defines the provisioning MIB for a Broadband Access Systems chassis, covering how subscriber services are provisioned, notably via integration with an LDAP directory server. It exposes objects for the provisioning server ID and LDAP server connection details including IP address, port, username, and password used to fetch subscriber service profiles. This is a configuration-oriented module rather than a hardware/software health MIB; its monitoring relevance is in confirming that the provisioning subsystem's LDAP connectivity settings are correctly configured, since a broken LDAP link would prevent new subscribers from being provisioned. It relies on external LDAP directory infrastructure rather than other SNMP MIBs for its core function. It is deployed by broadband/cable operators who provision subscriber CPE services through a centralized LDAP-backed system tied to their BAS chassis. Engineers can download the BAS-PROV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-PROV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access Systems (BAS) chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check basProvInfoLdapServerIpAddr and basProvInfoLdapServerPort against the known-good LDAP server to confirm the provisioning path is correctly pointed, and verify basProvInfoLdapServerUserName is set for authentication. If basProvServerId or the LDAP connection objects are unexpectedly blank or wrong, that would explain a chassis failing to provision new subscriber services.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LDAP server IP address
  • LDAP server port
  • LDAP authentication username
  • provisioning server ID
  • provisioning object configuration
