Last Updated: 2010-09-07

Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: Allied Telesis

Description: Manages NTP client/server configuration, clock synchronization status, and NTP peer associations on Allied Telesis devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AT-NTP-MIB?

AT-NTP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Allied Telesis defining managed objects for Network Time Protocol client/server configuration on its switches and routers. It exposes NTP configuration such as configured time server peers, sync mode, and clock synchronization status/associations. Its monitoring value centers on software/service health rather than physical hardware: tracking whether the device's clock is currently synchronized to its configured NTP peers is important because a loss of sync can cascade into logging timestamp errors, certificate validation failures, and troubleshooting difficulty across the network. It builds conceptually on the IETF NTP protocol (RFC 5905) though implemented as a proprietary object set rather than reusing a standard NTP MIB. It is deployed on Allied Telesis switches/routers across enterprise and campus networks that require synchronized clocks for accurate event correlation. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the AT-NTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AT-NTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Allied Telesis switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the NTP peer association table for sync status and stratum/offset values to confirm the switch remains synchronized to its configured NTP servers, alerting if the device falls out of sync. A peer entry showing an unreachable or unsynchronized state alongside a growing clock offset would indicate an NTP server outage or network path problem affecting time accuracy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured NTP server/peer addresses
  • clock synchronization status
  • NTP peer association state
  • clock offset/stratum
