Category: Vendor: ACC/Ericsson
Description: Defines private community string management objects for SNMP access control on ACC/Ericsson network devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASM-PRIVATE-COMMIB?
ASM-PRIVATE-COMMIB is a vendor-specific MIB from ACC (a WAN/dial-access equipment maker later folded into Ericsson) that, based on its actual object definitions, provides storage-subsystem management for the device's internal diskette and hard-disk hardware, distinct from what its short description (community-string management) implies. It exposes tables describing diskette drives and hard-disk controllers, including drive type, controller slot number, and total counts of disks and controllers present in the chassis. This makes it a hardware-status monitoring MIB focused on local storage: administrators can check whether expected disk drives and controllers are present and correctly enumerated, which is useful for detecting a failed or missing storage component in the device (e.g., a boot/config-storage disk). As a self-contained vendor storage-inventory extension, it is not built on a broader IETF standard. It was deployed on ACC/Ericsson network access equipment (e.g., WAN access concentrators) that use internal diskette and hard-disk storage for configuration or firmware. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ASM-PRIVATE-COMMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASM-PRIVATE-COMMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Acer Incorporated / Fujitsu Siemens Computers ASM (Advanced Server Management) server hardware — storage, NIC, system board, and environment monitoring (legacy)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll disketteDriveTable/disketteDriveEntry, indexed by disketteDrvIndex, to confirm disketteDrvType matches the expected floppy drive hardware, and check hdControllerTable/hdControllerEntry (via hdCntrlNum and hdCntrlSlotNum) alongside totalHdCntrlNum to verify all expected hard-disk controllers are recognized. A totalDiskNum or totalLDiskNum value lower than expected, or a missing hdControllerEntry for a known slot, would indicate a failed or disconnected disk controller in the chassis.
What Can Be Monitored
- diskette drive type/presence
- hard disk controller count and slot assignment
- total disk count
- total logical disk count
