Category: DSL and Broadband, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent
Description: Manages SDSL line configuration, rate selection, and operational status on Ascend DSL equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASCEND-SDSL-MIB?
ASCEND-SDSL-MIB is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB for configuring SDSL line parameters and reporting rate selection and operational status on Ascend DSL access equipment. It exposes configuration data (rate selection, line profile) alongside operational status showing whether a line is synced and its current data rate and error statistics. It is a hardware-status MIB in practical use, since the key monitored values are line sync state, achieved rate, and error-second counts, all direct indicators of copper-line and modem health. It is used alongside the vendor's related ADSL/VDSL and line-diagnostic MIBs which share a common DSL monitoring framework. It was deployed by telcos and ISPs operating symmetric DSL service for business customers requiring equal upstream/downstream bandwidth. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ASCEND-SDSL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-SDSL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend DSLAM chassis
- Ascend SDSL line card/modem
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the SDSL line status table (an ascendSdslLineTable/ascendSdslLineEntry style structure) to check sync status and error-second counts for a subscriber's line, treating a line with a stable sync but climbing error-second count as a sign of marginal line quality that may soon drop entirely. No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so these names are inferred from the stated SDSL purpose rather than confirmed source identifiers.
What Can Be Monitored
- line sync status
- data rate selection
- error-second counts
- line profile configuration
- line operational state
