What Is ASCEND-MIBTHRESHHDSL2SHDSL-MIB?
This is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB defining performance thresholds and alert levels for HDSL2 and G.SHDSL lines on Ascend DSL access equipment. It exposes configurable threshold values for line performance parameters, such as error rates, used to trigger alerts/traps when line quality degrades. It is directly used for monitoring hardware/line status — comparing live DSL line performance counters against configured thresholds to flag failing or marginal copper loops before they cause an outage. It complements the standard HDSL2-SHDSL-LINE-MIB (RFC 3276) framework, which defines the underlying performance counters that these thresholds apply to. It is deployed on Ascend DSL access multiplexers/routers delivering HDSL2/SHDSL business-grade circuits. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBTHRESHHDSL2SHDSL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBTHRESHHDSL2SHDSL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend HDSL2/SHDSL DSL access equipment
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were captured for this module, but a threshold MIB of this kind typically exposes a configuration table (an ascendThreshHdsl2Shdsl*Table/Entry pattern) with settable threshold values for errored seconds or loop attenuation, paired with trap notifications when a threshold is crossed. An administrator would set an errored-seconds threshold and receive a trap when a line exceeds it, indicating a degrading SHDSL loop that may need a truck roll.
What Can Be Monitored
- line error-rate thresholds
- threshold-crossing alerts/traps
- HDSL2/SHDSL line quality
