What Is ASCEND-MIBIP-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBIP-MIB is a vendor-proprietary SNMP module from Ascend Communications (later absorbed into Lucent/Avaya) covering IP routing, addressing, and forwarding configuration on Ascend WAN access and dial-up concentrator platforms. It exposes configuration-oriented data such as interface IP address assignments, subnet masks, default gateways, and forwarding-related settings rather than raw traffic counters. For monitoring hardware/software status, it is most useful for confirming that an interface's IP configuration is applied and consistent, detecting misconfigured or missing addresses, and correlating IP-layer state with the underlying WAN interface's operational status. It is typically used alongside standard IF-MIB and IP-MIB objects, since Ascend indexes its proprietary tables against the same interface numbers. It was deployed on Ascend MAX/Pipeline/TNT remote-access routers used by ISPs and enterprises for dial-up and early broadband aggregation.
