What Is ASCEND-MIBIPFAX-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBIPFAX-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB for configuring an IP fax gateway, covering gateway configuration and call routing for fax-over-IP sessions. It exposes configuration objects for how fax calls are routed and handled by the gateway, along with session-level status for active fax transmissions. Its monitoring relevance is mainly software/session-status oriented: operators track whether fax sessions are completing successfully or failing, which reflects the health of the gateway's fax-relay software and its interaction with the underlying voice/data trunk. It depends on the telephony/VoIP call-handling MIBs in this family for the underlying call legs a fax session rides on. It was deployed on Ascend telephony/access gateways handling fax-over-IP traffic for enterprises and carriers. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBIPFAX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBIPFAX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend IP fax/telephony gateways

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls the fax gateway's session status objects to see how many fax calls are currently active and whether recent sessions completed or failed, alongside the routing configuration objects that determine which trunk a fax call uses. A rising rate of failed fax sessions on one route, without a corresponding rise in overall call volume, points to a gateway software or codec-negotiation issue on that specific route. Routing configuration is typically checked first when a customer reports fax calls failing to connect.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fax session status (success/failure)
  • active fax call count
  • fax call routing configuration
  • gateway trunk assignment
