Category: VPN and Security, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages IKE security policy database entries and selector rules on Ascend VPN equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBIKESPD-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBIKESPD-MIB is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB for managing the IKE (Internet Key Exchange) Security Policy Database on Ascend VPN/remote-access equipment (later part of Lucent), defining security policy entries and selector rules used to negotiate IPsec tunnels. It exposes configuration data describing which traffic selectors map to which IKE/IPsec policies rather than rich runtime counters, so its monitoring role is centered on confirming VPN policy configuration correctness and, by extension, the software-level security posture of the device. An administrator would use it to verify expected security policies and selectors are present and correctly ordered, which affects whether VPN tunnels establish as intended. It builds on the standard IKE/IPsec protocol concepts (RFC 2409) applied to Ascend's implementation. It was typically deployed on Ascend (later Lucent/Nortel-era) VPN gateways and remote-access concentrators, and the ASCEND-MIBIKESPD-MIB MIB remains the reference for decoding IKE security policy and selector entries on that legacy hardware.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBIKESPD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend (Lucent) VPN gateway/remote-access concentrator

Monitoring Examples

No concrete sample objects were provided for this module, so a fully grounded polling scenario isn't available; in general an operator would expect to poll IKE security policy and selector table entries to confirm VPN tunnel policies are correctly configured and to diagnose why a particular VPN peer connection is failing to negotiate.
