Description: Areca private MIB for monitoring SAS RAID subsystem health, HDD status, RAID set configuration, and volume set state on Areca storage controllers

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARECA-SNMP-MIB?

ARECA-SNMP-MIB is Areca's private enterprise MIB for monitoring their SAS/SATA hardware RAID controller subsystems, covering vendor/model identity, firmware/boot/MBR versions, processor type and speed, and cache sizes (instruction, data, and secondary cache). It also exposes RAID set, volume set, and HDD status information for the broader storage subsystem per its short description. Monitoring emphasis is squarely on hardware and firmware status, controller CPU model/speed, cache sizes, firmware/boot/MBR version, and physical disk/RAID health, making it a core tool for spotting a failed or degraded drive or RAID set before data loss occurs. It is a standalone vendor MIB using only generic SNMPv2-SMI imports, without dependency on other storage-standard MIBs. It is deployed on Areca hardware RAID controllers in servers and storage arrays, polled by storage management tools for proactive disk/RAID health checks. Engineers can download the ARECA-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARECA-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Areca SAS/SATA RAID controller

Monitoring Examples

siVendor, siModel, siSerial, siFirmVer, siBootVer, and siMbrVer let an admin confirm the exact controller model and firmware/boot/MBR versions installed, useful when validating patch compliance across a fleet of RAID controllers. siProcessor and siCpuSpeed alongside siICache, siDCache, and siSCache expose the controller's onboard compute capability, and an admin would poll the module's RAID/HDD status objects to catch a degraded RAID set or failed HDD before an array goes offline.

What Can Be Monitored

  • controller vendor/model/serial
  • firmware/boot/MBR version
  • processor type and speed
  • cache size (instruction/data/secondary)
  • RAID set status
  • HDD/physical disk status
