Category: Telephony and VoIP, Vendor: Acme Packet

Description: Covers configuration and statistics for RADIUS authentication and accounting servers on Acme Packet SBCs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is APRADIUS-MIB?

APRADIUS-MIB is an Acme Packet vendor-specific MIB that covers RADIUS authentication and accounting server interactions on Acme Packet (now Oracle) Net-Net Session Border Controllers (SBCs). It exposes a single apRadiusServerStatsTable, indexed by apRadiusServerAddressType and apRadiusServerAddress, with per-RADIUS-server counters including apRadiusServerAccessRequests, apRadiusServerAccessAccepts, apRadiusServerAccessRejects, apRadiusServerTimeouts, apRadiusServerRoundTripTime, apRadiusServerBadAuthenticators, and disconnect-related counters (apRadiusServerDisconnectRequests/ACKs/NACKs). This data is useful for monitoring the health of AAA integration on an SBC, whether RADIUS servers are responding promptly and accepting authentication requests, or timing out and rejecting them, which directly affects call/session admission. It depends on ACMEPACKET-SMI for its module registration and INET-ADDRESS-MIB for the address-typed indexing of RADIUS server instances, and it is deployed on Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs wherever RADIUS-based authentication or accounting is configured, so administrators can download the APRADIUS-MIB file to add it to their SBC monitoring toolkit.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APRADIUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Acme Packet (Oracle) Net-Net Session Border Controllers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls apRadiusServerTimeouts and apRadiusServerAccessRejects for each configured RADIUS server address in apRadiusServerStatsTable alongside apRadiusServerRoundTripTime; a sustained increase in apRadiusServerTimeouts with a growing apRadiusServerRoundTripTime would indicate the RADIUS server is overloaded or unreachable, risking failed call authentication on the SBC.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RADIUS access request/accept/reject counters
  • RADIUS round-trip time per server
  • disconnect request/ACK/NACK counters
  • bad authenticator and malformed response counts
  • access retransmission and timeout counts
