Description: Defines managed objects for monitoring and managing SIP User Agent entities, including configuration of SIP server addresses.
IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring SIP-UA-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.
What Is SIP-UA-MIB?
SIP-UA-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards-based MIB (RFC 3261 era) defining managed objects for SIP User Agent entities -- endpoints that combine a User Agent Client (which initiates SIP requests) and a User Agent Server (which responds to them). It exposes configuration data for the SIP servers a user agent is registered to or routes through, including server address, address type, and the server's role (e.g. outbound proxy, registrar). Its monitoring focus is primarily configuration/software status: it lets an administrator verify which SIP server(s) a given user agent is configured to use and in what role, which is essential for diagnosing call setup failures caused by a misconfigured or unreachable SIP server address. It is directly dependent on the SIP protocol standard (RFC 3261) for its semantics and is a vendor-neutral companion to other SIP-related IETF MIBs such as SIP-REGISTRAR-MIB. It is typically deployed on SIP-capable endpoints, softphones, or gateways in VoIP networks where operators need visibility into per-agent SIP server configuration. Engineers configuring or troubleshooting a Cisco IOS SIP User Agent (the 'show sip-ua' command family) reference this standard IETF MIB to monitor SIP UA registration and session status via SNMP.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SIP-UA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- SIP user agent, softphone, or VoIP gateway
Monitoring Examples
The sipUACfgServerTable (with entries sipUACfgServerEntry) is indexed by sipUACfgServerIndex and exposes sipUACfgServerAddressType, sipUACfgServerAddress, and sipUACfgServerRole for each configured SIP server on a user agent. An administrator troubleshooting failed call setups on a SIP endpoint could poll this table to confirm the configured server address matches the expected registrar or proxy, and check sipUACfgServerRole to verify the agent is pointed at the correct server type (e.g. registrar vs. outbound proxy) rather than a stale or incorrect address.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured SIP server address
- SIP server address type
- SIP server role (registrar/proxy)
- number of configured SIP servers

RFC description
MIB for managing SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) User Agent endpoints, provides monitoring of SIP calls, registration status, and protocol statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, SIP user agent/softphone/VoIP gateway (server-registration configuration status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
