Category: Cisco Devices, Telephony and VoIP

Description: Provides management objects for managing H.324 analog multimedia dial control on Cisco voice gateways for modem-based videoconferencing.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-H324-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB?

CISCO-H324-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB extends the IETF Dial Control MIB (RFC 2128) with call-detail objects specific to ITU-T H.324, the standard for analog multimedia (audio/video) calls carried over narrowband telephony connections such as ISDN, used for videoconferencing over modems. It belongs to Cisco's voice/video gateway product line and exposes a call-history table recording per-call setup details, negotiated bandwidth, and codec information for both transmitted and received video streams. Its primary monitoring value is tracking call and session-level software status rather than device hardware: administrators use it to verify call completion, codec negotiation success, and media throughput (packets/bytes) for troubleshooting failed or degraded video calls. It explicitly depends on and extends the IETF Dial Control MIB (RFC 2128), reusing its call-history indexing conventions. It is deployed on Cisco voice/video gateways handling legacy H.324 videoconferencing traffic over the PSTN or ISDN, and a CISCO-H324-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB download supplies the call-history object definitions needed to load this module into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-H324-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco voice/video gateway (H.324 analog multimedia dial-up equipment)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would query cH324CallHistoryTable/cH324CallHistoryEntry, indexed by cH324CallHistoryConnectionId, to review completed calls' cH324CallHistoryH324CallType and cH324CallHistoryUsedBandwidth. Comparing cH324CallHistoryTxVideoCodec/cH324CallHistoryRxVideoCodec entries across calls helps confirm both endpoints negotiated a compatible video codec. A call showing low cH324CallHistoryTxVideoBytes or cH324CallHistoryRxVideoBytes relative to call duration would indicate a stalled or degraded video stream needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • H.324 call history
  • negotiated call bandwidth
  • transmitted/received video codec
  • transmitted/received video packet and byte counts
  • call connection identifiers
