Description: Appian Communications physical serial port encapsulation and clock configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is APPIAN-PPORT-SERIAL-MIB?
APPIAN-PPORT-SERIAL-MIB is Appian Communications' Serial Interface MIB covering RS232-like physical serial ports on their SONET access equipment. It exposes per-port physical configuration (baud rate, parity, number of bits, operating mode/code) alongside admin/operational status and associated traps. Its monitoring focus is on interface/hardware status: detecting ports that are administratively up but operationally down, or configuration mismatches, via status fields and fault traps. It is a companion module to APPIAN-MODULE-MIB, sharing the same node/slot addressing scheme within Appian's enterprise MIB tree. It is deployed for legacy serial data circuits carried over Appian SONET/optical transport equipment, such as out-of-band management or legacy data services. Engineers can download the APPIAN-PPORT-SERIAL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-PPORT-SERIAL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Appian Communications SONET access node with serial interface cards
Monitoring Examples
acSerialTable/acSerialEntry, indexed by acSerialNodeId, acSerialSlot, and acSerialPort, exposes acSerialAdminStatus and acSerialOpStatus alongside acSerialBaudRate, acSerialParity, and acSerialNumberBits; an admin can detect a serial port that is administratively up but operationally down, or a baud-rate/parity mismatch causing a connected legacy device to fail to link, with acSerialTraps delivering near-real-time notification of such changes.
What Can Be Monitored
- serial port admin/operational status
- baud rate
- parity setting
- operating mode/code
- port fault traps
