What Is AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB?
AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB is Apple's vendor MIB for the third-generation AirPort and AirPort Extreme Base Station wireless access points, exposing system identity/configuration and wireless client association data. It covers system-level configuration objects (name, contact, location, uptime, firmware version) alongside a wireless client table reporting each associated station's address, connection type, and data rates. Its monitoring value spans both software status — sysConfUptime and sysConfFirmwareVersion reveal device availability and whether firmware is current — and wireless service status, since wirelessNumber and wirelessClientsTable/wirelessClient rows show how many stations are associated and their per-client physical address, association time, and negotiated rates. It is a self-contained vendor MIB built on standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions rather than layered on IEEE 802.11 MIBs. It is deployed in home/small-office and some enterprise environments using Apple AirPort Base Station access points for Wi-Fi connectivity. Engineers can download the AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Apple AirPort / AirPort Extreme Base Station (v3)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll sysConfUptime and sysConfFirmwareVersion to confirm the base station hasn't rebooted unexpectedly and is running current firmware. Polling wirelessNumber alongside wirelessClientsTable/wirelessClient rows (with wirelessPhysAddress, wirelessType, wirelessDataRates, and wirelessTimeAssociated) would show which client devices are currently connected, their negotiated data rate, and how long they've been associated — useful for spotting a client stuck at a low data rate due to poor RF conditions. A sudden drop in wirelessNumber could indicate the radio or the base station itself has gone offline.
What Can Be Monitored
- system uptime
- firmware version
- number of wireless clients
- per-client MAC address and association time
- per-client data rate
- system identity (name/contact/location)
