Organization: AirWave Wireless

Last Updated: 2004-01-07

Category: SNMP Framework, Wireless and WLAN

Description: Defines the Aruba AirWave enterprise SMI OID structure for wireless network management platform MIBs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AirWave-SMI-MIB?

AirWave-SMI-MIB defines the Structure of Management Information (SMI) enterprise OID root under which Aruba's AirWave wireless network management platform registers its product MIBs. Like other SMI root modules, it is almost entirely structural, providing organizational OID nodes (including a placeholder simulator branch) rather than live monitored data itself. It has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its purpose is solely to give AirWave-related MIBs a consistent namespace to register under. Any actual monitoring data (wireless AP status, client counts, RF health, etc.) lives in the separate AirWave product MIBs that import this root, so this module is a dependency root for those, not a data source in its own right. It is relevant wherever Aruba AirWave is used to centrally manage wireless LAN infrastructure. Engineers can download the AirWave-SMI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AirWave-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba AirWave wireless network management platform (root OID, not a specific device)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only the airwaveSimulator placeholder node and other OID-tree structure, with no OBJECT-TYPE instances carrying runtime values, so there is nothing meaningful to poll here directly. A management station would instead use this root purely to locate and register the actual AirWave product MIBs beneath it. Real wireless monitoring data would be obtained from those dependent MIBs, not from AirWave-SMI-MIB itself.
