Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Wireless and WLAN
Description: Defines textual conventions and OID references for the Airespace (Cisco) wireless LAN controller MIB suite.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is AIRESPACE-REF-MIB?
AIRESPACE-REF-MIB is a support/reference module in the Airespace MIB suite (Airespace being the wireless LAN controller company acquired by Cisco, whose products became the Cisco WLC line). It defines shared textual conventions and top-level OID/enterprise references used by other Airespace/Cisco WLC MIBs, rather than exposing device data directly. As a reference module it has no operational monitoring objects of its own -- interface, environmental, or performance data is defined in the sibling Airespace MIBs that import these conventions, not here. Its role is purely to underpin the rest of the Airespace/Cisco Unified Wireless MIB family, establishing shared types and OID roots those MIBs depend on. It is typically loaded automatically as a dependency whenever an Airespace/Cisco WLC MIB is compiled or loaded, rather than polled directly by network management systems. Engineers can download the AIRESPACE-REF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AIRESPACE-REF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco (formerly Airespace) wireless LAN controller
Monitoring Examples
This module is a support/reference MIB defining shared textual conventions and OID structure for the Airespace family -- it has no runtime data objects and no sample objects were identified, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; actual wireless controller status would be polled from the sibling Airespace/Cisco WLC MIBs that import these definitions.

RFC description
Cisco/Airespace foundational MIB that defines the Structure of Management Information for the Airespace enterprise wireless platform. Serves as the reference MIB for Cisco wireless controllers and LWAPP (Light Weight Access Point Protocol) access points managing 802.11 wireless networks.
Start monitoring Cisco (Airespace) Wireless LAN Controllers (legacy) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
