What Is AETHRA-MIB?

AETHRA-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for Aethra's DSL and ISDN broadband customer-premises/access equipment, covering xDSL line configuration and connectivity along with basic diagnostic utilities. It exposes a per-line xdslTable with link status, upstream/downstream attenuation and noise margin, and current sync rates and modulation type, plus supporting fileTransfer and ping utility objects. It's used mainly to monitor the operational health of the DSL physical layer — link up/down state, signal quality (attenuation, noise margin), and achieved sync rate — which together indicate whether a subscriber's line is degraded or healthy, and it also offers ping/file-transfer diagnostics for active connectivity testing and firmware upload. It doesn't appear to lean heavily on external MIBs beyond standard SNMP conventions, being a largely self-contained vendor MIB. It's typically deployed on Aethra DSL/ISDN modems and access routers used by broadband subscribers and small offices. Engineers can download the AETHRA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AETHRA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An ISP's NOC would poll xdslLinkStatus in xdslTable, indexed by xdslIndex, to confirm a subscriber's DSL line is synced, then check xdslUsNoiseMargin/xdslDsNoiseMargin and xdslUsAttenuation/xdslDsAttenuation to gauge line quality against provisioning thresholds. xdslUsCurrRate and xdslDsCurrRate show the actual negotiated upstream/downstream sync speed, which can be compared to the provisioned rate to spot rate-adaptation fallback. The pingParameters/ping objects let the NOC trigger an active reachability test from the CPE itself, useful when troubleshooting whether an outage is on the access line or further upstream.
