Category: Fibre Channel and Storage, Vendor: Adaptec

Description: Manages Adaptec SCSI host bus adapters, providing SCSI bus configuration, device discovery, and I/O error statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADAPTECSCSI-MIB?

ADAPTECSCSI-MIB is Adaptec's proprietary MIB for managing SCSI host bus adapters (HBAs) installed in servers, covering adapter identification, SCSI bus configuration, and attached-device discovery. It exposes component-level identity data (manufacturer, product, firmware/version, serial number) alongside operational control objects for initiating installation checks, verification passes, and SCSI device polling. Its monitoring value centers on hardware identity and health of the SCSI adapter itself, tracking firmware version and serial number for asset/software-version auditing. It uses verification and device-poll objects to confirm the adapter and its attached SCSI devices are responding correctly, revealing a bad cable or failed drive when verification fails. No dependency on other standard MIBs is apparent from the available definitions; it would typically be deployed on servers or storage nodes fitted with Adaptec SCSI controllers, and administrators can download the ADAPTECSCSI-MIB file to load it into the management station reporting adapter and attached-device inventory.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADAPTECSCSI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Adaptec SCSI host bus adapter (server-installed storage controller)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would read a1Manufacturer, a1Product, and a1Version from a given tComponentid/eComponentid entry to confirm the exact model and firmware level of an installed SCSI adapter, and cross-check a1SerialNumber for asset tracking. Triggering a2PollDevices under tOperationGroup/eOperationGroup would force a rescan of the SCSI bus, and a subsequent read of a1Installation or a1Verify status would reveal whether a newly attached SCSI device passed verification or reported an error, flagging a bad cable or failed drive. Comparing a1Version across a fleet of adapters would also reveal firmware drift needing a coordinated upgrade.

What Can Be Monitored

  • adapter manufacturer and product identity
  • adapter firmware/version
  • adapter serial number
  • installation/verification status
  • SCSI device poll/discovery results
