Category: Telephony and VoIP, Vendor: AudioCodes

Description: Provides performance monitoring counters for PSTN interfaces on AudioCodes gateways, covering trunk utilization, call success rates, and signaling errors.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AC-PM-PSTN-MIB?

AC-PM-PSTN-MIB is AudioCodes' performance-monitoring module for the PSTN-facing elements of its media gateways and session border controllers. It exposes interval-based performance counters for trunk/channel utilization, call attempt and success rates, and PSTN signaling errors, organized under a Configuration subtree (interval length and per-table thresholds) and a Data subtree (the monitored tables themselves). It is explicitly a monitoring MIB: administrators use it to track call-processing health over rolling intervals, following the documented convention that a value of -1 means the requested statistic is unsupported or not yet available for that interval. It complements AudioCodes' other management MIBs and general voice-gateway/PSTN interface standards rather than replacing them. It is deployed on AudioCodes VoIP gateways and SBCs terminating PSTN trunks, where operators need historical, interval-based visibility into trunk quality and signaling reliability. Engineers can download the AC-PM-PSTN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AC-PM-PSTN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • AudioCodes media gateway
  • AudioCodes session border controller (SBC)

Monitoring Examples

No specific object names were sampled for this MIB; per the module description, an operator would poll the Data subtree's interval tables for trunk utilization and call-signaling-error counts over each configured period, using a run of -1 values to distinguish 'not yet measured' from a genuine zero, and treating a spike in signaling errors as a flag for a failing PSTN trunk.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PSTN trunk utilization
  • call attempt/success rate
  • signaling error counts
  • performance interval configuration and thresholds

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using acPMTrunkUtilizationVolume OID:

Select an AudioCodes Mediant-series gateways/SBC as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type acPMTrunkUtilizationVolume into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the activity volume. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if utilization approaches its capacity limit, since sustained high utilization often precedes congestion or degraded performance. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
