Last Updated: 2009-10-21

Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages RS-485 serial interface configuration on H3C/3Com devices, providing baud rate, data bits, parity, and flow control settings for serial ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-RS485-MIB?

The A3COM-HUAWEI-RS485-MIB manages RS-485 serial interfaces on H3C/3Com devices, covering physical-layer serial parameters such as baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control, along with session-level counters for raw serial sessions carried over those interfaces. It exposes both configuration data and hardware/traffic counters such as transmitted/received character counts and error character counts. Its monitoring value is explicitly hardware-health-oriented, since h3cRS485TXErrCharacters and h3cRS485RXErrCharacters reveal serial-line signal integrity problems such as cabling faults, electrical noise, or a wrong baud rate on the physical RS-485 bus, often used to connect environmental sensors or auxiliary hardware to a networking device. There is no strong dependency on other standard MIBs, as RS-485 is a device-local serial-port feature. It is deployed on H3C devices with auxiliary serial ports used to interface with legacy serial equipment such as sensors, modems, or console/monitoring hardware. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-RS485-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-RS485-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C device with RS-485 serial port (switch/router with auxiliary serial interface)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls h3cRS485PropertiesTable/h3cRS485PropertiesEntry to confirm the configured h3cRS485BaudRate, h3cRS485DataBits, and h3cRS485Parity match the attached serial device, then watches h3cRS485RXErrCharacters for a rising count that would indicate a baud-rate mismatch or noisy cable. Tracking h3cRS485TXCharacters versus h3cRS485RXCharacters across h3cRS485RawSessions helps confirm whether a serial session is actively exchanging data or has gone silent.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RS-485 baud rate/parity/flow-control configuration
  • transmitted and received character counts
  • TX/RX error character counts
  • raw serial session status
