Description: Manages ZyXEL VLAN stacking Q-in-Q for tunneling customer VLANs across a service provider network.

What Is ZYXEL-VLAN-STACK-MIB?

ZYXEL-VLAN-STACK-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB for VLAN stacking (Q-in-Q), a technique that wraps a provider outer VLAN tag around a customer's already-tagged traffic so that many customer VLANs can be tunneled transparently across a shared service-provider network, placing it in the switching/carrier-Ethernet configuration category. It exposes per-port stacking mode (access/tunnel/uplink role) and the outer (S-VLAN/SPVID) tag assigned to customer traffic, rather than performance counters or hardware sensors. Its monitoring role is configuration verification: confirming that customer-facing ports are correctly set to tunnel mode with the right outer VLAN tag, so customer VLAN tags remain intact end-to-end across the provider core. It is a direct extension of the IEEE 802.1Q/802.1ad (Q-in-Q) VLAN tagging standard and depends on the switch's core VLAN/bridge MIB. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL access switches at the edge of a Metro Ethernet or Carrier Ethernet network offering Q-in-Q VLAN tunneling services to multiple business customers. Engineers can download the ZYXEL-VLAN-STACK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-VLAN-STACK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would verify the outer S-VLAN tag and stacking mode configured on a customer-facing port to confirm double-tagged frames are being generated/stripped correctly as traffic enters/exits the provider network. If a customer's internal VLAN tags start appearing on the provider core, checking the port's stacking-mode setting would likely reveal it was left in access/untagged mode rather than tunnel mode. No sample objects were listed for this MIB, so specific object names are unconfirmed, but the functional data centers on per-port stacking mode and outer VLAN tag assignment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port VLAN stacking mode
  • outer (S-VLAN) tag assignment
  • tunnel vs. access port role
