What Is ZXR10-BFD-MIB?

ZXR10-BFD-MIB is a ZTE proprietary SNMP module for the ZXR10 family of carrier routers/switches, implementing Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) for fast link and path failure detection. It exposes both configuration objects (admin status, session initialization mode, discriminators) and session-state data used to determine whether a monitored forwarding path is up or down. This MIB is directly used to monitor the software/protocol health of the device's fast-failure-detection subsystem: whether BFD is administratively enabled, what session state each monitored path is in, and whether failure notifications have been triggered, which is critical for detecting link failures faster than standard routing protocol timers would allow. BFD as a technology is closely tied to the routing/MPLS protocols it protects, so this MIB is typically used alongside OSPF, BGP, or MPLS-TE MIBs on the same device. It is deployed on ZTE ZXR10 routers in service-provider or enterprise core/edge networks requiring sub-second failure detection. Engineers can download the ZXR10-BFD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the zxr10BfdSessTable/zxr10BfdSessEntry, keyed by zxr10BfdSessIndex, to read per-session fields such as zxr10BfdSessApplicationId, zxr10BfdSessInitMode, zxr10BfdSessDiscriminator, zxr10BfdSessRemoteDiscr, and zxr10BfdSessSrcUdpPort. Checking zxr10BfdAdminStatus confirms BFD is enabled globally, while enabling zxr10BfdSessNotificationsEnable ensures traps fire under zxr10BfdNotifications when a session transitions down. A session entry showing a mismatched or zero zxr10BfdSessRemoteDiscr would indicate the remote peer has stopped responding, signaling an imminent link failure.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using zxr10BfdSessPerfPktIn OID:

Select a ZTE ZXR10 router/switch (BFD session admin-status/path-up-down status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type zxr10BfdSessPerfPktIn into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The total number of BFD messages received for this BFD session. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
