deviceFormatMedium

Module: XYPLEX-BOOT-SERVER-MIB

OID (symbolic): XYPLEX-BOOT-SERVER-MIB::deviceFormatMedium

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.33.6.1.13.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Control to cause formatting of the medium in the device. In response to a get-request or get-next-request, the agent always returns 'ready' for this value. Setting the value to 'ready' has no effect. Setting it to 'execute' causes the device to be formatted. Corresponds directly to the FORMAT DEVICE command.

What is deviceFormatMedium?

A write-only control to format the medium in this device: it always reads back as ready(1), writing execute(2) starts the format, and writing ready(1) has no effect — the SNMP equivalent of the FORMAT DEVICE command; an admin should use it carefully since formatting erases the device's contents.
