Category: Hub and LAN Infrastructure
Description: Monitors Xircom network adapter interface statistics, link status, and driver configuration parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is XIRCOM-MIB?
XIRCOM-MIB is an enterprise MIB from Xircom, a maker of PC-card and USB network adapters later part of Intel, for managing its network adapter product line. It exposes interface-level statistics, link status, and driver/adapter configuration parameters for Xircom Ethernet and modem adapters. Its principal use is monitoring the hardware and driver status of the adapter, letting administrators confirm link-up/link-down state, negotiated speed/duplex, and low-level interface error or collision counters that indicate a failing NIC or cabling problem. It commonly complements the standard IETF Interfaces MIB (RFC 2863/1213) rather than replacing it, adding Xircom-specific adapter detail on top of the generic ifTable. It is typically deployed on laptops and desktops fitted with Xircom PC-card or USB network adapters in enterprise remote-access and mobile-workforce environments. Engineers can download the XIRCOM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XIRCOM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xircom PC-card network adapters
- Xircom USB network adapters
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the adapter's link-status object to confirm whether the Xircom NIC currently reports link-up, then check the associated interface error/collision counters to see whether a marginal cable or duplex mismatch is degrading throughput. Driver configuration parameters exposed by this MIB would be checked to confirm the adapter is running its expected operating mode, such as full-duplex or the correct media type, after a driver update or reconfiguration. Because no sample objects were captured for this MIB, exact table names cannot be confirmed, but the short description indicates it centers on interface statistics, link status, and driver configuration.
What Can Be Monitored
