Category: VPN and Tunneling

Description: Monitors Wellfleet VRRP virtual router instances, master election state, and failover event statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-VRRP-MIB?

Wellfleet-VRRP-MIB is a Wellfleet router MIB for monitoring Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) instances, covering virtual router group configuration, master election state, and failover event statistics. It exposes configuration objects (virtual router group definitions) and operational objects reporting current role (master/backup), state transitions, and failover counts. This is fault/failover monitoring at its core: tracking master election state and failover event counts reveals whether router redundancy is functioning correctly or whether a router is flapping between master and backup, which is a strong indicator of an underlying hardware or link problem. It is a vendor implementation that parallels the IETF VRRP standard (RFC 2338) and its associated standard VRRP MIB (RFC 2787), predating or supplementing that standard MIB. It is deployed in Wellfleet router pairs providing default-gateway redundancy for a LAN segment, tracked via the Wellfleet-VRRP-MIB MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-VRRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router pair (VRRP redundancy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module; typically an operator would poll the current VRRP role and state-transition/failover counters per virtual router instance to detect unexpected mastership changes, which would indicate an unstable link or a failing router in the redundancy pair.

What Can Be Monitored

  • virtual router group configuration
  • current master/backup role
  • master election state transitions
  • failover event count
