Category: VPN and Tunneling

Description: Manages Wellfleet L2TP tunnel and session parameters, LAC/LNS roles, and tunneled PPP statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-L2TP-MIB?

Wellfleet-L2TP-MIB is a Wellfleet/Bay Networks vendor extension for managing Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) tunnels and sessions used to carry PPP traffic across an IP network. It exposes tunnel and session configuration and status, LAC (L2TP Access Concentrator) and LNS (L2TP Network Server) role settings, and tunneled PPP session statistics. As a monitoring tool it lets an administrator verify tunnel and session state (established, failing, torn down), which directly reflects the health of remote-access or VPN connectivity being handled by the device. It builds on IETF L2TP concepts and complements the standard PPP MIB used for the tunneled sessions. It is typically deployed in remote-access or VPN aggregation scenarios where Wellfleet/Bay Networks equipment terminates or originates L2TP tunnels. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-L2TP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-L2TP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router
  • L2TP LAC/LNS device

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the tunnel status table to confirm active L2TP tunnels between LAC and LNS peers remain established, and check session counters for unexpected drops. A tunnel stuck in a non-established state or a spike in session teardown events would indicate authentication failure or network path issues affecting remote access. No sample object names were provided for this MIB, so this scenario is based on the general capability described rather than confirmed objects.

What Can Be Monitored

  • L2TP session state
  • LAC/LNS role configuration
  • tunneled PPP statistics
