Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks System Management
Description: Monitors Wellfleet Data Link Switching parameters, peer connections, and encapsulated SNA traffic statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Wellfleet-DLS-MIB?
This is a vendor-specific proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications (later Bay Networks/Nortel) monitoring Data Link Switching (DLSw), a technique for encapsulating legacy SNA/NetBIOS traffic over an IP backbone. It exposes DLSw peer connection parameters and encapsulated SNA traffic statistics. It supports software status monitoring because the state of each DLSw peer connection (connected, disconnected, capabilities-exchanged) directly indicates whether mainframe/SNA sessions traversing that path are viable, and traffic counters reveal whether encapsulated sessions are actively flowing or stalled. It conceptually parallels the IETF DLSw MIB (RFC 2024) though implemented as a Wellfleet-proprietary equivalent. It is typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers bridging legacy IBM SNA/NetBIOS traffic over a modern IP WAN. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Wellfleet-DLS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-DLS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers configured for Data Link Switching (SNA over IP)
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects were provided for this module; based on the short_desc, an operator would poll the DLSw peer table for each remote peer's connection state and the associated SNA session/traffic counters. A peer connection that transitions out of the connected state would explain a sudden loss of mainframe terminal sessions riding over that DLSw tunnel.
What Can Be Monitored
- DLSw peer connection state
- encapsulated SNA session count
- encapsulated traffic byte/packet counters

RFC description
A Wellfleet (Bay Networks/Nortel) MIB for Data Link Switching management. Provides SNMP support for managing DLS tunneling of unroutable protocols such as SNA and NetBIOS over IP networks.
Start monitoring Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers configured for Data Link Switching, SNA over IP (peer-connection state status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
