What Is WWP-EXT-BRIDGE-TRAP-MIB?

WWP-EXT-BRIDGE-TRAP-MIB is a World Wide Packets enterprise MIB that defines SNMP trap notifications for the extended-bridge functionality of WWP transport equipment, covering topology-change and port-state-change events. It exposes only notification/trap definitions rather than polled data objects, signaling when the bridge's spanning-tree topology changes or a bridge port transitions state (e.g., forwarding to blocking). It supports monitoring the software/networking status of the device by alerting operators in near real time to bridging events that could indicate a network loop, a failed link, or a topology reconvergence in progress. It is inherently dependent on the standard bridge/spanning-tree concepts (akin to BRIDGE-MIB/RFC 4188) since its traps describe events from that model applied to WWP's extended bridge implementation. It is deployed in carrier Ethernet networks built on WWP equipment, where NMS operators want immediate notification of topology changes rather than having to poll for them. Engineers can download the WWP-EXT-BRIDGE-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WWP-EXT-BRIDGE-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena (World Wide Packets) LightningEdge Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only trap/notification objects for topology-change and port-state events on the WWP extended bridge, with no polled runtime data objects of its own, so there is no polling-based monitoring scenario to describe honestly. In practice, an NMS would receive a topology-change trap when the bridge's spanning tree recalculates, or a port-state trap when a specific bridge port moves from forwarding to blocking (or vice versa), prompting investigation into a possible link flap or loop.
