Category: Security and Access Control

Description: Defines web services device management objects for device discovery, capability description, and status monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WSD-MIB?

WSD-MIB is a vendor MIB (Radware-style "rs" object prefix) for managing Web Services Devices in a load-balancing or application-delivery context, covering discovery, capability description, and operational status of application/web servers behind the device. It exposes a table of application servers with address, name, operational status, weighting, and load/traffic-related metrics. Its monitoring value is centered on server farm health and load: administrators track rsWSDServerOperStatus to see if a backend server is up or down, rsWSDServerAttachedUsersNumber and rsWSDServerPeakLoad to gauge how busy each server is, and rsWSDServerFramesRate/rsWSDServerFramesLoad for traffic throughput, effectively monitoring both availability and performance load of each application server. It relates conceptually to standard web-services device discovery concepts (WS-Discovery) though its object model is vendor-specific. It is typically deployed on load-balancer/application-delivery controllers monitoring a pool of backend web/application servers. Engineers can download the WSD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WSD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • load balancer / application delivery controller (Radware-style)
  • web/application server farm monitored by the device

Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk rsWSDApplicationServersTable / rsWSDApplicationServerEntry to check rsWSDServerOperStatus for each server address in rsWSDServerAddr, and compare rsWSDServerAttachedUsersNumber against rsWSDServerPeakLoad to see if a server is nearing capacity. A server whose rsWSDServerOperStatus flips to down while rsWSDServerFramesRate drops to zero would indicate a backend outage requiring failover to remaining pool members.

What Can Be Monitored

  • application server operational status
  • attached users count
  • peak load
  • frame/traffic rate
  • server weight
  • proximity tuning
