All MIBs › WIRELESS-MIB

Category: Generic Wireless and Broadband

Description: Monitors generic wireless interface parameters including signal strength, channel utilization, and client association statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WIRELESS-MIB?

WIRELESS-MIB is a private MIB (enterprise OID 2) reporting base-station status for a wireless packet-radio network administered through a Wireless Network Administration Program. Its objects cover base-station name/network-name/admin IP address, a base table (HDLC address, number of remotes, cell identifier, adapter status, emitted power, controller-card/modem description, universal address, topology-trap-active flag), and a statistics table counting transmitted/retransmitted frames, negative acknowledgments received/transmitted, received frames, line errors, and purged frames. As a hardware/performance-status MIB it lets an administrator watch retransmission and line-error counts as signs of radio-link quality degradation to a remote site. It is deployed on this vendor's wireless packet-radio base stations. Engineers can download the WIRELESS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WIRELESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wireless packet-radio base stations

Monitoring Examples

An administrator monitors baseStatsRxmit against baseStatsXmit to gauge the retransmission rate to a remote radio site, catching a degrading wireless link before it drops entirely.

What Can Be Monitored

  • base station radio status and frame retransmission/error counters
