Description: Manages Virtual Switch Module parameters including port states, VLAN assignments, and switching fabric statistics.

What Is Vsm-MIB?

Vsm-MIB is a vendor MIB for a Virtual Switch Module (VSM) -- a switching fabric card or blade used within a chassis-based telecom or data switching system -- managing card configuration, port/link states, and switching fabric statistics. It exposes card-level configuration data (bundle/timeslot status per card), per-link configuration and enable/signal-type status, and timeslot configuration used in circuit or TDM-style switching. It supports monitoring of hardware and link status -- specifically per-card bundle/timeslot status and per-link enable state and signal type -- letting operators detect a card or link that has gone out of service or lost its expected signal type. The "dv2Vsm" naming suggests this MIB belongs to a larger vendor enterprise MIB tree, with dependencies on that vendor's broader chassis/card MIB structure. It is deployed in chassis-based switching or TDM/circuit-switching platforms where individual switch module cards and their links/timeslots must be monitored for availability, making this Vsm-MIB reference useful for operators managing such platforms.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Vsm-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • chassis-based switching/TDM circuit-switch platform using vendor virtual switch module cards

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll vsmCardCfgTable (vsmCardCfgBndlTslotStatus) to confirm a given card's bundle/timeslot status is operational, and check vsmLinkTable entries -- vsmLinkEnable, vsmLinkEnableStat, and vsmLinkSigType -- to verify a link is enabled and running the expected signal type. A link entry showing vsmLinkEnableStat as disabled while vsmLinkEnable is set to enabled would indicate a link that failed to come up, prompting a hardware check.

What Can Be Monitored

  • card bundle/timeslot status
  • per-link enable configuration and actual state
  • link signal type
  • timeslot configuration
