vplsIndexNext

Module: VPLS-DRAFT-00-MIB

OID (symbolic): VPLS-DRAFT-00-MIB::vplsIndexNext

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.10.0.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Unsigned32

Access: read-only

Description: This object contains an appropriate value to be used for vplsIndex when creating entries in the vplsConfigTable. The value 0 indicates that no unassigned entries are available. To obtain the value of vplsIndex for a new entry in the vplsTable, the manager issues a management protocol retrieval operation to obtain the current value of vplsIndex. After each retrieval operation, the agent should modify the value to reflect the next unassigned index. After a manager retrieves a value the agent will determine through its local policy when this index value will be made available for reuse.

What is vplsIndexNext?

This object suggests the next available index value a manager should use when creating a new entry in the VPLS configuration table, with 0 meaning no unassigned index is currently available. Admins retrieve this value before provisioning a new VPLS instance, and the agent automatically advances it after each read so the next request gets a fresh index. For example, a manager polling vplsIndexNext and getting back 5 would use that value as the vplsIndex for the next VPLS service it creates.
