Category: ATM and WAN Transport

Description: Manages VPI virtual path interface parameters and ATM traffic statistics on WAN equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is VPI-MIB?

VPI-MIB is a vendor MIB used to manage ATM Virtual Path Interface (VPI) parameters and traffic statistics on WAN equipment. Based on its short description it exposes VPI configuration settings and traffic-statistics counters for ATM virtual paths carried over WAN links. Its monitoring focus is primarily performance/traffic-statistics oriented — tracking ATM virtual-path traffic counters to detect congestion or abnormal utilization on a given VPI, though the very limited sample objects available suggest it may also expose some software identification data. It likely parallels or depends on standard ATM MIB conventions for its VPI object model. It is typically deployed on ATM-capable WAN switches/routers in carrier and enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the VPI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VPI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ATM-capable WAN switches/routers

Monitoring Examples

The sample objects provided ("voiceprint", "software") do not clearly correspond to VPI traffic tables, so specific object names for a VPI monitoring scenario cannot be confidently cited; based on the short description, an admin would be expected to poll ATM virtual-path traffic-statistics counters to detect congestion on a specific VPI, but the concrete object identifiers are not available in this excerpt.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM virtual path configuration
  • ATM traffic statistics
  • software identification
