Category: ATM and WAN Transport

Description: Manages Unisys/Timeplex WAN switching and multiplexing equipment configuration and performance.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is UNISYS-TIMEPLEX-MIB?

UNISYS-TIMEPLEX-MIB is a large legacy Unisys/Timeplex vendor-specific MIB (SMIv1, built on RFC1065-SMI/RFC-1212) for WAN switching and multiplexing equipment. It covers system-level chassis control (usystemAction, usystemReboots, usystemErrorCode), synchronous HDLC line configuration and timers per uifTable (uifHdlcClockType, uifHdlcRto, uifHdlcAckTo, uifHdlcSabmInterval), and a full suite of legacy network-layer protocol groups — IP, ICMP, TCP/UDP, EGP/GGP, RIP, X.25, and FDDI (SMT station, MAC, and PHY groups) — largely mirrored across two management contexts (umib and a duplicate tl1mib tree) for redundant multiplexer management. This makes it useful for monitoring HDLC line synchronization/clocking parameters and FDDI ring station status and error counters on Timeplex multiplexers deployed in legacy WAN backbones. It depends on RFC1065-SMI and RFC1155-SMI conventions given its age, and administrators can download the UNISYS-TIMEPLEX-MIB file to load into their SNMP tooling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in UNISYS-TIMEPLEX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisys/Timeplex WAN multiplexers and T1/E1 switching equipment (legacy 1990s product line)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls uifHdlcClockType and uifHdlcAckTo for a WAN interface, then checks the FDDI MAC counters group for the attached ring; a clock-type mismatch (DTE-accepts vs. DCE-generates) combined with rising FDDI MAC error counters would flag a synchronization fault on the Timeplex multiplexer's WAN or ring interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system reboot/error-code status
  • HDLC interface timers and clock mode
  • FDDI SMT station configuration/operational groups
  • FDDI MAC frame/error counters
  • IP/TCP/UDP/EGP/RIP protocol statistics
  • X.25 interface parameters
