Category: VERITAS Storage Management
Description: Monitors VERITAS Cluster Server service group state, resource faults, and node membership.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is VERITAS-CLUSTER-MIB?
VERITAS-CLUSTER-MIB is a vendor-specific, trap-only MIB (using legacy TRAP-TYPE, not NOTIFICATION-TYPE) that VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) and Global Cluster Manager (GCM) products use to report cluster health events via SNMP. Rather than exposing polled tables, it defines a shared set of trap variables — trapOrigin, entityType, entitySubType, entityName, entityState, systemName, peerSystemName, message, eventTime, and severityId — that get attached to trap definitions grouped under resourcesTraps, groupsTraps, systemsTraps, vcsTraps, agentsTraps, and rdcTraps (replicated data cluster traps). These traps signal conditions such as a resource fault, a service group going offline or auto-disabling, a system dropping out of the cluster, or an agent restarting. It depends on the surrounding VCS/GCM cluster software for the actual state transitions it reports and is deployed on Windows/Unix hosts running VERITAS Cluster Server in high-availability application clusters, where administrators rely on VERITAS-CLUSTER-MIB SNMP monitoring to catch failover and fault events in real time.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VERITAS-CLUSTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) and Global Cluster Manager (GCM) hosts
Monitoring Examples
An operator's trap receiver watches for clusterResourceStateUnknownTrap or a Service Group faulted trap and inspects the accompanying entityName, entityState, and severityId variables to identify which resource or group failed and how severely; a stream of Service Group faulted/restarting traps with no matching "online" trap shortly after would indicate a group stuck in a failover loop.
What Can Be Monitored
- resource state/fault traps
- service group online/offline/fault traps
- system cluster membership traps
- agent restart/fault traps
- replicated data cluster (RDC) traps
- trap severity level
