What Is Unisphere-SMI?

Unisphere-SMI is the top-level Structure of Management Information (SMI) module for Unisphere Networks, a broadband edge-router vendor later acquired by Juniper, establishing the enterprise OID tree under which all Unisphere product, data-plane, and voice MIBs register. As a pure SMI/registration module it defines only OBJECT IDENTIFIER subtrees rather than any live monitorable data. A Unisphere-SMI reference is mainly useful for tracing how a specific product MIB's OID fits into the broader usProducts/usDataMibs/usVoiceMibs hierarchy. It therefore has no direct role in exposing hardware or software runtime status - that responsibility belongs to the specific functional MIBs registered beneath usProducts, usDataMibs, and usVoiceMibs. It depends only on the base SNMPv2-SMI conventions, and other Unisphere/Juniper MIBs import from it for OID assignment. It is deployed as a foundational module alongside functional MIBs on Unisphere/Juniper E-series edge routers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper/Unisphere E-series edge routers and voice gateways

Monitoring Examples

No runtime data objects are defined; usProducts, usMibs, usDataMibs, usVoiceMibs, and usExperiment/usVoiceExperiment are pure registration subtrees used by other MIB modules to anchor their OIDs, not objects that would themselves be polled for status.
