Organization: Unisphere Networks, Inc.

Last Updated: 2001-03-29

Category: Juniper/Unisphere Broadband

Description: Specifies conformance requirements for Unisphere traceroute diagnostic tool management on ERX routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Unisphere-Data-Trace-Route-CONF?

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module for the SNMP agent's Trace Route diagnostic component in the Unisphere Networks ERX Routing Switch family (later part of Juniper's E-series). Rather than exposing operational data, it formally states which OIDs and features of the corresponding Trace Route MIB the vendor's SNMP agent implementation actually supports. As a conformance module it carries no polled hardware or software status information itself - no uptime, temperature, CPU, or process data - it only documents implementation coverage of the real Trace Route data MIB. It depends directly on the separate Unisphere Trace Route data MIB (whose objects it profiles) and on the SNMPv2 AGENT-CAPABILITIES/conformance framework. Such modules are used by tool vendors and integrators during SNMP agent compliance testing and MIB-compiler validation for ERX/E-series routers, not for day-to-day network monitoring. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-Trace-Route-CONF file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-Trace-Route-CONF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisphere ERX routers (later Juniper E-series)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES/conformance module with no runtime data objects of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly beyond checking which Trace Route MIB features a given agent implementation claims to support.

RFC description

Vendor-private configuration MIB for Unisphere/Juniper trace route functionality; manages trace route parameters and diagnostics.

Start monitoring Unisphere ERX routers, later Juniper E-series (Trace-Route-agent conformance declaration, no data objects) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
