Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is USR-TFTP-MIB?

USR-TFTP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from CommWorks/3Com for managing TFTP-based file transfer operations used to load firmware images and configuration files onto their carrier gateway equipment. It is expected to expose objects controlling and reporting on TFTP transfer sessions, such as server address, filename, transfer status, and result/error codes for firmware or config downloads. Its monitoring purpose is software/operational status: an operator would use it to confirm whether a firmware upgrade or configuration push completed successfully or failed, which is important for verifying software version currency and catching failed update operations before they cause a device to run stale or corrupted firmware. It is part of the USR/CommWorks enterprise MIB family, working alongside the other USR-* platform MIBs on the same gateway chassis. It is typically deployed in carrier remote-access gateway fleets where centralized firmware/config distribution via TFTP is used for maintenance. Engineers can download the USR-TFTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in USR-TFTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CommWorks/3Com (U.S. Robotics) carrier remote-access gateway equipment

Monitoring Examples

No sample_objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be grounded; however, based on the module description an operator would typically poll a transfer-status object to confirm a firmware or configuration TFTP download completed successfully, and check an error/result code object when a transfer fails. A device stuck reporting an in-progress or failed TFTP transfer status after a scheduled firmware push would indicate a failed upgrade needing manual intervention.
