What Is USR-HACN-MIB?

USR-HACN-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from CommWorks/3Com managing High-Availability Clustering (HACN) and node failover configuration on their gateway/remote-access equipment. It exposes clustering configuration such as the HA run IP address, shared secret, packet retry count/timeout, virtual and physical HA node tables, and a redundant boot IP, along with statistics counting registration requests and switchover events. Its monitoring purpose is explicitly software/platform availability status: an operator can confirm how many redundant HA nodes are currently active, whether failovers (switchovers) have occurred, and how many registration requests have succeeded, which directly reflects the health of the high-availability failover mechanism protecting the gateway service. It is part of the USR/CommWorks enterprise MIB family, working alongside hardware inventory MIBs like USR-GWCBSP-MIB for the same platform. It is typically deployed in carrier-grade gateway clusters where continuous service availability during hardware or software failure is required, with the USR-HACN-MIB MIB providing the SNMP-visible failover state.

An operator can poll usrCurrNumOfActiveHA and usrCurrNumRedundantHA to confirm the expected number of active and standby nodes are present in the HA cluster. usrTotalNumberOfHASwitchOvers tracked over time reveals how often failovers have occurred, and a rising count without a corresponding planned maintenance event signals instability in the primary node. usrTotalNumRegReq compared against successful registrations in usrHACNHAStatsTable helps spot nodes failing to register properly with the cluster controller.
