What Is UMSASSETID-MIB?
UMSASSETID-MIB is a vendor-specific asset-identification MIB (associated with IBM's PSG/BladeCenter management stack, judging from the iBMPSG object prefix) used for hardware inventory and asset tracking on managed systems. It exposes tables of serial-number and identification information (name, serial number, manufacturer, model, version, and other identifying info) as well as a computer-system table describing the managed asset. Its primary monitoring value is hardware inventory/status: confirming exactly which physical unit (by serial number, model, and manufacturer) is installed and reachable, which is foundational for asset-management and hardware-lifecycle tracking rather than performance counters. It likely depends on or complements a broader system-management MIB suite (such as IBM's server management or the Entity MIB) for fuller hardware status. It is typically deployed on IBM server/BladeCenter-class hardware within enterprise asset-management and inventory-discovery tooling. An admin or inventory tool would walk iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationTable (rows in iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationEntry keyed by iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationKeyIndex) to pull iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationSerialNumber, iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationManufacturer, and iBMPSGSerialNumberInformationModel for each identified component. The iBMPSGComputerSystemTable/iBMPSGComputerSystemEntry rows would similarly be polled to confirm the system's identity matches asset-management records, flagging a mismatch (wrong serial number or model reported) as a sign of a swapped or misconfigured unit.
