What Is UM-PINGER-MIB?
UM-PINGER-MIB is a MIB implementing an ICMP-ping-based reachability monitor ("pinger") used to periodically test and record the availability of remote hosts. It exposes configuration for what and when to check, along with accumulated statistics such as total time observed, uptime, and online time, as well as percentage-based availability metrics. This is fundamentally an availability/uptime monitoring MIB: it lets an operator track the percentage of time a target has been "up" or "online" and correlate outages against total elapsed monitoring time, effectively giving a software-level reachability/uptime status rather than internal device hardware health. It relies conceptually on standard ICMP echo (ping) behavior rather than any other formal MIB standard, functioning as a lightweight, self-contained reachability-testing module. It is typically deployed on network management platforms or probe appliances used to continuously test the reachability of critical hosts, links, or remote sites. Engineers can download the UM-PINGER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll umPingerPctUp and umPingerPctOnline to see the percentage of time a monitored target has been reachable, cross-referencing umPingerTimeTotal, umPingerTimeUp, and umPingerTimeOnline to compute exact downtime windows, and check umPingerCheckLast against umPingerCheckFrom to confirm the probe is actively running on schedule. A drop in umPingerPctUp would flag a target experiencing intermittent or sustained reachability problems.
