Description: Defines IETF standard objects for provider bridges and MAC address learning in IEEE 802.1 networks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is U-BRIDGE-MIB?
U-BRIDGE-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF-style Bridge MIB extension that adds support for GARP Multicast Registration Protocol (GMRP) and Restricted VLAN Registration under IEEE 802.1u/802.1Q, extending the base Bridge MIB and Q-BRIDGE-MIB frameworks for managed Ethernet switches. It exposes per-port configuration and status objects controlling whether GMRP-based dynamic multicast group registration and dynamic VLAN registration are restricted on a port, along with tables recording the last group/VLAN registration that failed and the reason for that failure. Its monitoring focus is on Layer-2 control-plane software behavior rather than physical hardware sensors: operators use it to confirm which ports have restricted VLAN/GMRP registration enabled and to diagnose failed dynamic group or VLAN registration attempts, which surface as connectivity or multicast-forwarding problems on a switched network. It explicitly extends and depends on the IETF BRIDGE-MIB (dot1dBridge) and Q-BRIDGE-MIB (dot1qVlan) object trees, reusing their port/VLAN indexing. Network engineers can consult the U-BRIDGE-MIB reference when it is deployed on enterprise/campus Ethernet switches from any vendor implementing IEEE 802.1u/802.1Q restricted registration features, not tied to one manufacturer.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in U-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- IEEE 802.1u/802.1Q-capable Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll dot1dExtPortGmrpTable/dot1dExtPortGmrpEntry to check dot1dPortRestrictedGroupRegistration per port and inspect dot1dPortLastGroupFailed together with dot1dPortGmrpFailingReason to diagnose why a dynamic multicast group registration was rejected on a given port; similarly, dot1qExtPortVlanTable/dot1qExtPortVlanEntry with dot1qPortRestrictedVlanRegistration and dot1qPortGvrpFailingReason would reveal a port that is refusing dynamic VLAN registration and why, helping isolate a misconfigured trunk or restricted-access port.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port GMRP restricted-registration setting
- last failed dynamic multicast group registration and reason
- per-port restricted VLAN registration setting
- last failed dynamic VLAN (GVRP) registration and reason
